The Advisory Board of Health has five members that are each appointed to a five-year term by the Town Council.

Overview

The State of New Jersey mandates that each municipality have a Board of Health to serve its residents. The Town of Newton contracts for health services with the Sussex county Department of Environmental and Public Health.

The Town of Newton issues yearly Food Establishment Licenses to all the businesses in the Town that serve or handle food. We also issue Tattoo / Body Piercing Establishment Licenses as well as Junk Dealer Licenses within the Town of Newton. The Sussex county Health Department will inspect all of these businesses prior to the Municipal Clerk's Office issuing their annual licenses.

Another area of responsibility is hosting and running the yearly "free" rabies clinic. These clinics are supported by the State Health Department which provides the vaccine at no cost to the Town.
