Great news just in!  The Town has saved approximately $50,000 over a two-year period on electricity!  We have just completed the online energy auction and our rate (effective December 1st) will go from 8.9 cents to 7.98 cents.  My thanks to the Council for supporting my initiative.  I will email you the report when it is available.

Our next Town Council meeting is Monday, January 28th at 7:00pm.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Lorraine's office has prepared the minutes from the December 11th Special Meeting for consideration and approval.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan on staying for the whole meeting.  There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 5 minutes.  This allows ample time for all whom wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward.  The public can speak on any matter.

COUNCIL & MANAGER REPORTS

Doug Tavella, of the Appalachian Forestry Service, and Dave Simmons of HPA, will be in attendance to briefly discuss an agreement on timber salvage at Morris Lake.

ORDINANCES

There are four ordinances for introduction:

Ordinance 2013-1 will establish a tree protection ordinance.

Ordinance 2013-2 will establish a tree bank ordinance.

Ordinance 2013-3 will authorize establishing a Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) for the Newton Volunteer First Aid Squad.  This would allow the voters to decide same at the next general election in November 2013.

Ordinance 2013-4 will authorize the sale of Block 18.02, Lot 2 more commonly referred to as the Railroad Right-of-Way.
