The Memorial Day Parade is Monday, May 25th at 10:00am. Following same will be the ceremony at Memory Park.
Our next Town Council meeting is Wednesday, May 27th at 7:00pm.
A reminder that Summer Hours commence next week - late night Thursdays until 6:30pm and early closing on Fridays at 1:30pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Lorraine's office has prepared the minutes from the May 11th Regular meeting for consideration and approval.

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan on staying for the whole meeting. There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 5 minutes. This allows ample time for all whom wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward. The public can speak on any matter.
Chief Richards will be recognizing several officers for their outstanding service.
COUNCIL & MANAGER REPORTS
There are three Ordinances for public hearing and adoption:
Ordinance 2015-10 will establish a Tree Bank.
Ordinance 2015-14 will amend the Code with regard to minimum lighting standards.
Ordinance 2015-15 will amend the Code to permit vapor or tobacco stores in the T-4, T-5 and SD-3 zones.
There is one ordinance for introduction:
Ordinance 2015-17 will amend the LOSAP points schedule for the Newton First Aid Squad volunteers.
Resolution #75-2015* will authorize our Municipal Attorney to participate in a Joint Defense of an OPRA lawsuit.
Resolution #76-2015 will approve the fireworks display for Newton Day.
Resolution #77-2015* will authorize executing an agreement with the United States Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service regarding conducting certain wildlife management practices on a riparian area owned by the Town of Newton.
Resolution #78-2015* will authorize Change Order No. 3 for the Newton Fire Museum Masonry Renovation Project.
Resolution #79-2015* will affirm the Tax Collector’s refund of monies to an outside lienholder for Block 6.01, Lot 1.
Resolution #80-2015* will approve the purchase of a new Chevy Tahoe for the PD.
Resolution #81-2015* will approve bills and vouchers for payment.
Resolution #82-2015* will authorize purchasing energy through an auction…if the number are advantageous to Newton.
Resolution #83-2015* will authorize the insertion of funds into the current budget from Clean Communities grant.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
Morris Lake was 4 inches below the top of the spillway on 5.18.15.
Our team met to review options for the new sign ordinance. We will meet in the next week or so to discuss same in advance of our discussion on June 8th.

We met with FEMA this week to work on closing out various payments from Hurricane Sandy – some additional work needs to be done but we are almost there.
Mediation is scheduled with PBA/SOA in July for the contract negotiations.
We reviewed two applications at TRC this month – Punctuated Equilibrium (Thorlabs) and Dunkin’ Donuts – both will proceed to the Planning Board on June 17th.
Today we met with Xavier and the AzulCore team to review options for newtonnjcool.com as well as our Facebook page and new Twitter account. All three social media outlets will be utilized to promote shopping, dining and recreation throughout all areas of Newton. I look forward to working with Xavier and his team.
