Dear Council Members & Staff:
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend – may we remember those that lost their lives in defense of our nation’s liberties. Thank you to everyone who made the parade and ceremony so successful.
Next Friday, June 5th at 5:30pm @ PSS is our annual Miss Newton Contest – hope to see you there as I practice my time honored tradition of expertly hosting same.
Our next Town Council meeting is Monday, June 8th at 7:00pm.
THE WEEK IN REVIEW
Morris Lake was 7 inches below the top of the spillway on 5.25.15.
I am currently reviewing an updated draft of the new sign ordinance and will distribute same to our working group shortly.
Reverse Energy Auction Update - Major Energy was the winning bidder at 8.5 cents per KwH. Estimated savings over the normal utility rate is $50,000 over 2 years! 11 bidders participated in same. The bids did not come in below expectation on the other smaller accounts so those were rejected.
Mediation is scheduled with PBA/SOA in July for the contract negotiations.
DPW crew members have been out at Dam Site #2 dealing with beavers! That’s right! Not Jerry Mathers, the real ones. Our local furry friends have built their own dam in the spillway. Work is occurring to try to block water from entering the spillway to clean up all the debris and dirt our friends have located in the outflow structure. The Division of Fish and Wildlife has been contacted to assist. Thanks a lot beave!
Deputy Mayor Flynn and I attended the annual Commerce and Industry Association of NJ dinner in Belleville this week. It was a great networking opportunity as well as a chance to showcase how progressive Newton is with attracting new capital investment and business to Town. Note: Newton is the only municipality in NJ to ever join this fine organization in its 85-year history.
Interviews were conducted today for the vacant Deputy Municipal Court Administrator position.
Next week – keep an eye out for invitations for the July 1st reorganization…
Have a great weekend! Let’s Go Rangers!
Yours for a Better Newton,
