Condolences to the family of former mayor Ray Storm who suffered a family loss this week. I expressed condolences to Ray on behalf of the Town.

Looking for volunteers for Neighbors Helping Neighbors V on Saturday, October 17th from 8:30am – Noon. Please sign up with Terri. Part-timers will be paid; full-timers receive compensatory time.

Our next Town Council meeting will begin at 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 14th.

Morris Lake was 31 inches below the top of the spillway on 9.28.15.

I want to welcome Debra Doudoukjian to the team as Code Enforcement Director. Debra previously served as our Police Records clerk. Our new Code Enforcement Trainee, Jennifer DeMartino, starts next week.

I also want to welcome our new part-time Special Law Enforcement Officer, Stephen Moran, to the team. Stephen had a stellar career for 28 years in the Vernon Township Police Department, retiring as a captain. Welcome aboard Steve!

The new employee handbook has been distributed – please ensure you sign your acknowledgment form and submit same to HR.

Routine business discussed at the monthly SCEDP meeting.

I attended the annual TransOptions awards breakfast this week. They noted the great partnership with Newton on the Street Smart campaign.

Kimberly Williams and I are planning the annual Town holiday party – same will be held at the Spring Street Pub and Grill on Friday, December 18th at 4pm. I will close the building at 3:30pm that day. Stay tuned for more details!

I attended the monthly merchants association meeting with Debra D. (Code Enf.), Debra D. (Recreation), and Adam (DPW). We answered any inquiries and provided them with updates on happenings and activities.

Kudos to the merchants who placed blue ribbons in the downtown to show support for our police officers!

Milling of Trinity Street is Friday, October 9th – paving is Monday, October 12th.

Today I commenced what I hope will be one of many monthly/quarterly meetings with Dr. Greene from the Newton School District. I look forward to keeping our friends up the street informed of all of the good things happening in Town.

It’s that time of year! The budget memo has been distributed to staff – start planning! Submittals are due by October 30th.

The Taco Bell application will be heard at the special PB meeting on October 8th at 7:00pm. Live mas?
