I wanted to take a moment to thank the men and women who work and/or volunteer for the Town of Newton. During this very challenging Hurricane Irene weather event, these individuals, some of whom are paid, and others who volunteer their time, spent countless hours protecting the health, safety and welfare of Newton residents and businesses. Having spent many hours in Town today, I can say that I witnessed firsthand their professionalism, dedication and exceptional commitment to public service.
Also, I am proud to say that as the Town Manager, each department went out of their way to acknowledge the hard work of other departments: the Fire Department complimented Public Works and Dispatchers; Police complimented the Fire Department, EMS and Water and Sewer personnel, and vice versa. It is sometimes rare to find that type of mutual admiration and respect in municipal government, but not in Newton.
On behalf of the entire Town of Newton and the Town Council, I wanted to extend my most sincere thanks and appreciation to the men and women who worked or volunteered during not just this event, but do so each and every day to make the town a great place to live, work and visit. God’s blessings be with them and the good people of Newton always.
Thomas S. Russo, Jr., Town Manager, Newton, NJ
