Our next Town Council meeting is Monday, September 26th at 7:00pm.  Prior to the meeting there will be a Police Department monument dedication ceremony outside Town Hall at 6:00pm.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

I hope all of you have had an opportunity to check out a show at the Newton Theatre!  The opening night concert of Todd Rundgren was sold out and feedback was very positive.  It was great seeing the street busy with restaurant patrons and shoppers alike.

The 9/11 Ceremony at SCCC was extremely well attended and very powerful.  Chief Richards is once again to be commended for his hard work on this important event.

Congratulations to the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce and its staff and volunteers for a great Taste of Newton event on Monday night!

Revisions to the Personnel Manual are in your packet for review.  We will discuss my memorandum on same at the September 26th Council meeting.

The Economic Development Commission is looking for retail business ideas for Spring Street.  If you have suggestions for the types of retailers you would like to see in town, please email me your suggestions.

Today we walked the Sparta Glen area to check on the status of our watermain post-Hurricane Irene.  There are some areas that were compromised (road erosion, soil erosion, etc.).  Dave Simmons will provide a report on the repairs that need to occur and cost estimates for same.  We will submit this to our insurance agent as well as to FEMA.

A reverse 9-1-1 went out today in regards to the distribution error by the United States Postal Service with our Water and Sewer Utility bills.  A reminder that any property owner that has not yet received a 3rd quarter bill should be aware that payment is still due by September 30, 2011 to avoid a penalty or possible shut-off.  Any questions should be directed to 973-383-3521 x240.

I want to congratulate Louis Read on his 36 years of dedicated service to the Town of Newton.  Lou has retired from both his Class I Special Officer position as well as his Parking Enforcement Officer position.  I wish Lou and his family the best of health and happiness now and in the future!

Enjoy your weekend!  Go Giants!  Hockey training camp starts today!  Yes!
