The Memorial Day Parade will commence on Monday at 10:00am on Spring Street and conclude with a ceremony at Memory Park.
Town Hall is closed on Monday for the Memorial Day Holiday.
Our next Town Council meeting is on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00pm.

Lorraine’s office has prepared the minutes of the May 14th Regular and Special meetings for approval.

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan on staying for the whole meeting. There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 5 minutes. This allows ample time for all whom wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward. The public can speak on any matter.
COUNCIL & MANAGER REPORTS
Representatives of the Shade Tree Commission and DPW have been invited to present the Tree City USA flag to the Mayor and Council.
Resolution #97-2012* will grant approval to the Foodshed Alliance to hold their farmers’ market on the sidewalks and alleyways of Spring Street on Tuesdays from June 5th to October 30th.
Resolution #98-2012* will appoint Ken Teets to the Recreation Advisory Commission.
Resolution #99-2012* will award the contract for the Purchase of Watermain Pipes and Fitting for the Maple Avenue Watermain Project to HD Supply Waterworks, Ltd.
Resolution #100-2012* will authorize auctioning surplus items no longer needed for public use.
Resolution #101-2012* will accept the Purchase of Pipe Materials and Fittings for the Moran Street Watermain Project as complete.
Resolution #102-2012* will award the contract for the Installation of Sidewalks and Curbs on Various Intersections Project to Tony’s Concrete.
Resolution #103-2012* will approve bills and vouchers for payment.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
The Morris Lake Reservoir was 4 inches below the top of the spillway on 5.21.12.
We met this week with Jessica Caldwell to finalize the Armory Redevelopment Study for the Armory property.
We met this week with HPA to go over options for the Railroad ROW area to be considered at the June 25th Council meeting. We will present several options for consideration at that meeting.
Today there was a preconstruction meeting with Tilcon to map out our various 2012 paving projects.
Debi and I met with the new owner of 27 Trinity Street, the beautiful building located across from Mitchell Insurance Agency. The owner is also considering other development options in our community and we are grateful for his investment in Newton. The owner is looking for ideas on what the community would like at 27 Trinity Street (Restaurant, Bed and Breakfast, Coffee House, Jazz Club, Executive Office Space, were just some of the great ideas being tossed around).
Work has commenced on the retaining wall near George’s Salvage at Memory Park; work continues on the retaining wall at Town Hall.
New carpeting has been installed in the Human Resources office; new carpeting is being installed in the Community Development area and Finance – Treasurer’s Office.
I hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day weekend. We owe everything to those who died in the service of the United States Armed Forces.
