The Miss Newton and Little Mr. and Miss Newton Contest is tonight at Project Self Sufficiency at 5:30pm.

Newton Day is tomorrow.  The Firehouse 5K begins at 10:00am and opening ceremonies on Spring Street begin at 11:00am.  Newton Road Runner team members should arrive for check in by 9:00am.  A team photo will be taken at 9:30am at the start line.  Anyone who wants to pick up their bib numbers on Friday night can do so at #2 Firehouse from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Our next Town Council meeting is on Monday, June 11th at 7:00pm.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan on staying for the whole meeting.  There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 5 minutes.  This allows ample time for all whom wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward.  The public can speak on any matter.

COUNCIL & MANAGER REPORTS

Representatives of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture will be making a 20-minute presentation.  It is part of an educational outreach program about invasive forest pests, in particular, Emerald Ash Borer and Asian Longhorned Beetle.  Newton is in a high risk area.

ORDINANCES

There are two ordinances for introduction.

Ordinance 2012-17 will amend Section 320 of the Code Book regarding permitted uses and the definition of Artisinal Workshops.

Ordinance 2012-18 will reappropriate unexpended monies from Ordinance 2011-5 for paving of various streets to provide funding for municipal court security upgrades.

CONSENT AGENDA

If none of you have any items that you wish to pull from the Consent Agenda, the Mayor shall call for one roll call vote for all of the Consent Agenda items. 

Resolution #104-2012* will authorize a lien redemption for an outside lien holder for Block 22.02, Lot 3.

Resolution #105-2012* will authorize credits due water and sewer utility accounts.  

Resolution #106-2012* will accept the Installation of Sidewalks and Curbs for Various Intersections Project as complete based on the recommendation of Harold Pellow.

Resolution #107-2012* will approve bills and vouchers for payment.

Resolution #108-2012* is a capital budget amendment that is required due to Ordinance 2012-18 above.

Applications:

There are four applications for your consideration.

  1. An application for an on-premise raffle (Tricky-Tray) from DASI, to be held on Saturday, October 13, 3:00pm at SCCC.
  2. An application for an on-premise raffle (50/50) from SCCC Foundation to be held on June 28, July 5, 12 and 26 and August 2 at SCCC.
  3. Applications for an on-premise raffle (Tricky-Tray and 50/50) from the Catholic Academy of Sussex County to be held on September 28 at St. Joseph Regional School.
  4. An application for an off-premise raffle from the Catholic Academy of Sussex County to be held on May 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional School.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

The Morris Lake Reservoir was 3 inches below the top of the spillway on 06/08/12.

The sidewalk and curb project on Moran Street and Merriam Avenue was completed this week.

Tilcon will be in Town starting Monday to begin the milling and paving on Moran Street and Memory Park.  On Friday milling will begin on Merriam Avenue and Tilcon should be completed with the entire milling and paving project by Monday, June 18th weather permitting. 

Summer hours began this week.
