Lorraine’s office has prepared the minutes from the August 13th Regular meeting for your review.

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan on staying for the whole meeting. There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 5 minutes. This allows ample time for all whom wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward. The public can speak on any matter.

There are two ordinances for public hearing:
Ordinance 2012-21 will remove the requirement in our Code Book for the Town Attorney to reside in Newton.
Ordinance 2012-22 is a fully funded general Capital Improvement ordinance for municipal building renovations and the Beautification of Lower Spring Street Project.
There is one ordinance for introduction:
Ordinance 2012-23 is an ordinance to amend the Merriam Gateway Redevelopment Plan.
OLD BUSINESS – None.
If none of you have any items that you wish to pull from the Consent Agenda, the Mayor shall call for one roll call vote for all of the Consent Agenda items.
Resolution #179-2012* will award the contract for the purchase of elevated angle bleachers for Memory Park.
Resolution #180-2012* will appoint the crossing guards for the 2012-2013 school year.
Resolution #181-2012* will approve a fireworks display for Newton Medical Center’s annual Festival of Lights.
Resolution #182-2012* will authorize the tax collector to hold a tax sale in October.
Resolution #183-2012* will approve bills and vouchers for payment.
Resolution #184-2012* will authorize executing an agreement with the RBA Group, Inc., to complete an Intensive-Level Architectural Survey for the Town of Newton.
Resolution #185-2012* will authorize the insertion of revenue into the 2012 budget for the grant the Town received from the NJDEP Historic Preservation Office.

- An application for an on-premise raffle (50/50) from the Pride Foundation, Inc., to be held Saturday, September 15, 2012; Friday, October 12 and 19 at 7:00pm at Newton High School.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
The Morris Lake Reservoir was 22 inches below the top of the spillway on 8.24.12. This week the Town issued a drought alert to its residents.
The Maple Avenue watermain will be completed on Monday with the tie-in to Elm Street. Water will be turned off on Elm Street from 7:00am to 1:00pm to make the connection to the new main. The main will then be filled, and pressure & bacteria tested. Once the results come back then all 23 services will be completed.
RFPs will be due on September 12th for various positions including Town Attorney, Auditor, Bond Counsel, Labor Attorney, and Environmental Attorney.
The Employee Appreciation Party is this Sunday, August 26th from Noon-4:00pm at the pool. The big softball game is scheduled for 2:00pm...come out and support your fellow employees!
