Our next regular Town Council meeting (in person and via Zoom – Hybrid Regular Meeting) is Monday, January 22, 2024, beginning at 7:00pm. 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Clerk’s office has prepared for consideration and approval the minutes from December 11, 2023 – Regular Meeting, December 11, 2023 – Executive Session, and January 8, 2024 – Executive Session.

 

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan to stay for the whole meeting. There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 3 minutes and limited to one turn at the microphone. This allows ample time for all who wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward. The public can speak on any matter. Council may choose to comment after the entire public portion has concluded. Comments from the public will be both in-person and via Zoom.

 

COUNCIL & MANAGER REPORTS


ORDINANCE(S)

There are two (2) ordinances for Introduction:

 

Ordinance 2024-1 is an ordinance and agreement appointing Cory L. Stoner of Harold Pellow & Associates as Municipal Engineer for calendar years 2024, 2025, and 2026.

 

Ordinance 2024-2 is an ordinance permitting overnight parking in certain spots in Lot No. 2/Main Street Lot.

 

CONSENT AGENDA

If none of you have any items that you wish to pull from the Consent Agenda, the Mayor shall call for one roll call vote for all the Consent Agenda items. 

 

Resolution #61-2024* authorizes a Disabled Persons Property Tax Deduction at Block 5.05, Lot 8.

 

Resolution #62-2024* authorizes a refund of redemption monies to an outside lien holder for Block 8.08, Lot 21.

 

Resolution #63-2024* authorizes a refund of redemption monies to an outside lien holder for Block 9.03, Lot 5.

Resolution #64-2024* authorizes a refund of taxes for a 100% Disabled Veteran Exemption for Block 2.01, Lot 63.

 

Resolution #65-2024* grants authority for approval of certain purchases in excess of the bid threshold through New Jersey State Contracts and/or Purchasing Cooperatives for 2024.

 

Resolution #66-2024* approves a Cooperative Purchasing Contract to Garden State Laboratories, Inc.

 

Resolution #67-2024* authorizes an emergency repair of a 10” water valve at High Street/Route 94.

 

Resolution #68-2024* approves bills and vouchers for payment.

An application for membership into the Newton Fire Department from Jason Teets.

An application for membership into the Newton Fire Department from Francis Ays, Jr.

An application for membership into the Newton Fire Department from Aleeza Shabbir.

 

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Morris Lake is one inch over the top of the spillway.

 

Four (4) Wellness Seminars are being scheduled with Dr. Laura Rokosz, PhD, RDN. These will be conducted as Lunch & Learns via Zoom during 2024.

 

The Planning Board approved one (1) application this week for 59-61 High Street and carried two (2) others to February. Congratulations to Barbara Vrahnos on being selected as the new Chairperson!

 

Plans are moving along both for the Firehouse No. 1 project and the Boardwalk Connector project under the oversight of Cory Stoner.

 

Our next Tom Talk guest has been confirmed! Mayor John-Paul Couce will be our special guest on Thursday, January 25th at 1:30pm. Mark your calendars!

 

Special thanks to both Lt. Mueller and Chief VanNieuwland who will be retiring later this year. Much appreciation from all of us on your service to the Town.
