Duties

Kenneth A. Teets, Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC):

• Works with all of the municipal department heads and representatives of community organizations to develop plans that address emergency situations.
• Determines public and private entity capabilities to respond to emergencies.
• Maintains an inventory of resources and materials, equipment, and manpower that would be available from the public and private sectors when emergencies arise.
• Develops response training programs and schedules drills or exercises to test response capabilities.

Emergency plans for local industrial facilities, schools, nursing homes, and Newton Memorial Hospital are compiled by the EMC in cooperation with various companies. The EMC assures that those plans can be put into effect under the Town's Basic Emergency Management Plan.
